Day: Friday
Time: 3:00-4:00 pm
Class: Mangosteen
Theme: About Myself - Zoo Animals
Teacher: Ms Yeong

Sentence Making (Part IV)

Today, it's the last part of the sentence making activity for the children. They were pretty excited when I told them that I have brought the lollipop as the reward. Most of them tried their best to say at least 5 sentences today. The last sentence would be about colours. I picked the sentences that the children had sung in the song - "What colour is the sky?"

Example of the 5 sentences:

I am Yen Hao.
I am four years old.
I am a boy.
I like circle.
The sky is blue.

Our English thematic class is coming to an end by next Monday. Hopefully, the children had enjoyed my class. We shall see each other again in September later.

Sentence Making (Part III)

Date: 30th June 2016
Day: Thursday

Sentence Making (Part III)

Just right before I left the class yesterday, I told the children that they shall try to make 4 sentences on the next day. They didn't seem to be afraid of it yet, they were quite thrilled with it. I believe that with the proper encouragement, they believe that they could do it and they were quite proud of it as well.

After the outdoor activity today, we quickly entered back to the class to start with the sentence making session. Besides the 3 sentences that they had made on the previous day about their name, age and a shape that they like, today, I get them to make a sentence about their gender - I am a boy or I am a girl.

Example,
I am Yen Hao.
I am four years old.
I am a boy.
I like circle.

Most of the children could make those 4 sentences with very little help. The children were happy. Hopefully by Friday, they could make 5 sentences and they could get their reward - lollipop. Yeah!

Sentences Making (Part II)

The children went on a field trip to the National Zoo yesterday, therefore, there was no blog update for 22nd June 2016.

However, the children seem to look quite exhausted on the next day after the field trip. Therefore, today, I allowed the children to have some extra time to run about outside. Some of them started to ask if they could draw with chalks on the floor. I gave them some and I even started to draw with them.

Out of my surprise to find out that they were drawing shapes such as circle, square and some can even drew a triangle. I demonstrated some to them and they were quite happy to know that they could draw by themselves.

After the drawing session, we all came back to the class and sat down in a circle. I told the children that they shall try by making one extra sentences per day. The children started off with one sentence on last Friday and two sentences on Monday - I am ______ (they needed to say out their name) & their age.

Today, the children needed to add on one sentence. I picked the sentence for them - I like ______ (shapes).

Each of them would say out their name, age and a shape that they like. Most of the children could say it without much guidance. This is a good start. We shall add on another sentence tomorrow.

Book Sharing - Who Am I?

Date: 24th June 2016

Book Sharing - Who Am I?

I will not go into too detail about each zoo animals, yet, I shall just briefly introduce the name of the animals and some special features on their body.

Today, I brought in a book that introduces elephant. The book guided the children to look at the special features of an elephant with some simple sentences. The name of the book is "Who Am I?"

During circle time, I get the children to speak in simple sentence. Most of them could do so.

I wanted to see if the children to increase their sentences using by next week. Next week would be our final week for the English thematic class. We shall have a switch again for another 2 months. Hopefully, the children will grab the chance to make as many sentences as they could before the end of the class by next Friday.

Zoo Animals

The children will be going on a field trip to the National Zoo next Tuesday. Therefore, I wanted to introduce some animals that they probably will see in the zoo such as lion, elephant, zebra, giraffe etc.

I played them a video about lions today. Some of them still got it confused with tiger. Anyhow, hopefully, they will see the difference between these 2 animals when they see it for themselves in the zoo later.

Then, I brought in a book to share with the children - A Busy, Busy Day in Tinga, Tinga Tales

Through the story, the children got to see lots of other animals that appeared in the story.

The Green Peas' class (name for the class in the morning session) is going to incubate chicken eggs into chicks. The teacher also brought a hen and a roaster for the children to observe. However, the hen and the roaster has been transferred to another place today.

The children were excited to see the roaster and could tell me that it is a roaster. I believe that they recalled it from the song that we sang earlier.

Therefore, today, after the children had their routine outdoor session, we all sat down to listen to a story telling. I brought a book in today - Cock~a~Doodle Quack! Quack! by Ivor Baddiel and Sophie Jubb, Illustrated by Ailie Busby. The children enjoyed the story.

Note: It is a public holiday tomorrow. Therefore, there will be no blog update for 22nd June 2016.
